The support plate is constructed from a tubular element (44), of which the free open end (43) is designed to receive the mating section (20) of the support bearing (10) for the windscreen wiper shaft. Members are provided to immobilise the mating section in the open end of the tube, both in an axial and rotational sense. The parts are fixed together by means of an elastic locking finger (32), which is carried on the free end of a locking arm (28). The finger is formed in a recess (26), which is formed as part of the mating section of the bearing. When the two parts are fitted together, the locking finger springs into the locking notch (50), which is formed in the internal surface of the wall of the tubular element.
