Global system for fuzzy control of a fluctuation column which allows the process of automatic adjustment of the various conditions of the process which otherwise can be achieved only by an experienced operator. The global system for fuzzy control, not hitherto constructed, is used to carry out a stabilizing control of the process by controlling the percentage of air within the pulp (soft mass), the level of pulp and the flow of water on the bias, manipulating the flows of air, washing water and waste water, and in order to carry out supervisory control by controlling the content and recovery of metal in the concentrate, manipulating the flows of air, washing water and of waste. The fuzzy control system (Fig. 1) consists of a system for the acquisition of measurements, in the process, by means of appropriate sensors; of a system of actuation, in the process, by means of control valves, variable- speed or other pumps; of a system for converting analogue values of the measurements from the sensors into digital values, for converting flows into opening of valves or speed of pumps; of a process for calculating the values of the percentage of air within the pulp, of the level of pulp within the column, of the flow of water on the bias and of the recovery of metal in the concentrate; of a fuzzy controller which calculates, in accordance with the reference values of the variables controlled, the necessary values of the flows of the process which can be manipulated, these processes taking place in a personal computer; of a system of communication between the programmable automaton (robot) and the personal computer; and of a system of communication between the user and the controller consisting of a graphic interface displayed on a monitor where the user is able continuously to monitor the progress of the variables controlled and of the variables which are manipulated; and of a keyboard and a mouse whereby the user is able to alter the reference values of the controlled variables. <IMAGE>
