The invention relates to a fully opening ball valve 3 between two pipes 1, 2 and a method for the manufacture thereof. The pipe ends 6, 7 in the valve are sealed against a valve ball 5, rotatable about its axis 15 and serving to open and close the valve, the flow openings 9, 10 in the valve ball having a diameter essentially equal to the diameter of the flow cross-sectional area of the pipes. The valve ball and the pipe ends are enclosed by a cup-shaped shell 8, which at its ends 13 is connected to the sides of the pipes 1, 2. According to the invention a stepped widening 6, 7 has been made at the ends of both pipes 1, 2, in order to produce a sealing space inside the pipe casing and the valve ball 5, and the said widenings are situated in the internal space 14 defined by the shell 8 of the valve. When assembling the valve 3, the widened pipe ends 6, 7 and the matched seals 11, 12 inside the former are first connected to the valve ball and the shell 8 is then pressed against the sides of the pipes, and the ends 13 of the shell are fixed by welding. <IMAGE>
