A cord stopper comprises a double-headed plug (5) having a pair of through holes (6, 6) formed one through each plug heads (5') perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis thereof; a pair of sockets (10, 10) each reciprocally fitted over the respective plug head (5', 5') and having a pair of apertures (13, 13) formed through the periphery thereof; and a pair of springs (16, 16) for normally urging the sockets (10, 10) away from each other. When the sockets (10, 10) are fully compressed against the bias of the spring (16, 16), the apertures (13, 13) come into registry with the respective through holes (6, 6) for letting a string (1) through.
