Valve device for rotary piston engine chamber sealing bolt

Material is removed from the axially outer end of the sealing bolt at right angles to the corner strip groove and is here replaced by a sealing plate. The plate is U-recessed in its centre for a similarly U-shaped but narrower flap valve which reaches a short way into the groove so as to admit the pressure gas to the groove base in its turn without completing any link with the adjoining engine chamber. The radiused radially inner part of the valve matches the width of the U-shaped plate recess or stands narrower than this so as in either case to taper radially outwards to grant wider access section to the gas. Where the plate is stepped laterally along its axial inner side or is chamfered on one or both sides, it affords a stepped gas passage. The sealing plate is as thick as the axial width of the bowed sealing strip and is chamfered on the trailing or both sides so as to line up with the strip groove so the strips overlap the bolt itself and are thus forced against the engine side. The strips should be angled or stepped where they face the bolt to ensure unimpeded gas access to the groove bottom.
