A heterocyclic derivative represented by general formula (I) or medicinally acceptable salts thereof, a process for producing the same, and a medicinal composition containing the heterocyclic derivative or medicinally acceptable salt thereof, in particular, an ACAT inhibitor and a lipid peroxidation inhibitor, (wherein each symbol is as defined in the specification). As these compounds have excellent ACAT inhibitory and lipid peroxidation inhibitory effects, they are useful as an ACAT inhibitor and a lipid peroxidation inhibitor. More specifically, they are useful for preventing and treating arteriosclerosis, hyperlipemia, arteriosclerotic lesion in diabetes, and ischemic diseases of brain, heart or the like.
