Transmission path replacement in optical communications network

The replacement path is used for a transmission path with multiplexer and demultiplexer groups (MXn,DXn), respectively associated with transmission and reception modules (OS,OE) coupled via two optical channels. A central path evaluation unit (ZUW) is coupled to the reception modules, with an evaluation device (BE) controlling a switch (S3) at the multiplexer group, for selecting the transmission channel. Pref. the central path evaluation unit evaluates the transmission quality of the selected channel after replacement of the transmission path, to verify the transmission quality.
