Cavity-filling polymer insulation and sealant, used e.g. for electrical insulation

Polymer-based insulation and sealant, for insulating and/or sealing sections of elongated substrates or their ends or joints, has an inner layer of expandable polymer on a polymer support. Also claimed is a method for insulating and/or sealing the substrates. Pref. the blowing agent is a nitrogen cpd. based on azo cpds. or tetrazoles. The support and/or inner layer contains flame retardant and the support is shrinkable. The material is made in the form of sheet, strip, tube for cutting or moulding.
