In an optical component for light transmission, having a cylindrical quartz glass core (2) and a cladding (3) of quartz glass contg. a refractive index-decreasing dopant, the novelty is that the cladding glass also contains a viscosity-increasing stiffening agent (pref. aluminium and/or nitrogen) and/or contains a viscosity-reducing relaxation agent (pref. chlorine) in lower concn. than in the core glass.
