Fire protection system for IC engine

The exhaust system for an IC engine has an intermediate duct section (1) which has a lateral outlet port (40) to duct exhaust gases to fire risk sites in the engine compartment. This can include the carburettor, which is clad in an outer casing and which is pressurised by the fire quenching gases. A movable flap inside the duct section controls the flow of exhaust gases. The intermediate duct section has input- and output flanges (20,30) as well as a coupling for the quenching outlet (40). An overpressure valve (60) on the side of the duct prevents damage from overpressure. The inside of the duct has a lip to locate the pivot-mounted flap valve.
