The soil compactor (3) is fitted with a support frame (5) by which the machine is guided over the ground. The operator grips a separately hinged handgrip frame (10) which is linked to the main frame by two side hinge points (12) which include elastomer blocks to isolate the handgrip from severe vibrations. The handgrip pivots about a loosely defined axis (20) through the blocks. The elastomer blocks are clamped in outer rigid housings and locate the pivot axes of the handgrip. The mounting allows the axes to move loosely in the blocks to absorb vibrations in any direction.
