A method of and apparatus for impregnating a textile web with an impermeable medium according to a pre-selected pattern forming part of a wax printing technique, the web being passed between a pair of rotary mesh screens each carrying a complementary pattern such that the impregnating medium is applied simultaneously to both faces of the web which is then passed vertically downwards into a cooling bath such that the wax solidifies thereon according to the predetermined pattern. The screens (28) are located side-by-side in an impregnating station (6) and the web (5) is passed from a supply roll (4) via guides (8, 9) to pass vertically downwards through the nip between the screens (28) and then into the cooling bath (13) before being discharged. Simultaneous impregnation of both faces of the web avoids the need for additional pressure rollers and moistened blankets as well as conventional copper impregnating rolls. <IMAGE> |
