Immunoassay for diagnosis of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) comprises contacting a blood sample with a reagent comprising lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), or LDH subunit M and/or H or at least one fragment thereof, and detecting the formation of complexes with antibodies in the blood. Also claimed are: (1) a reagent for detecting IDDM, comprising LDH or LDH subunit M and/or H or at least one fragment or oligomer thereof; (2) a reagent for detecting IDDM, obtainable by isolating a protein fraction from LDH- and/or GAD-contg. tissues (GAD = glutamic acid decarboxylase), chromatographing the protein fraction, and collecting the eluted fractions having enzymatic or immunological LDH activity; (3) a reagent for detecting IDDM, obtainable by isolating a protein fraction from LDH- and/or GAD-contg. tissues (GAD = glutamic acid decarboxylase), chromatographing the protein fraction, and collecting the eluted fractions having enzymatic or immunological GAD and/or LDH activity, and (4) a test kit for detecting IDDM, comprising a reagent as above and other components for performing an immunoassay. |
