PURPOSE: To improve detection precision during the gear shift operation period of an automatic transmission. CONSTITUTION: During up shift from a first speed to a second speed, by multiplying the rotation speed NO of a transmission output shaft by a gear ratio IL before a gear shift and a correction factor K, such as a kind of a gear shift, and dividing it by a speed ratio (e) during the starting of the gear shift of a torque converter, a rotation speed of an engine (=NO×IL×K/eS) available when a gear ratio is fixed to a gear ratio IL is estimated as a rotation speed for decision at a gear shift operation starting point. A spot where an actual engine rotation speed Ne is reduced to a value lower than a rotation speed for judgement is detected as a gear shift operation starting point. |
