METHOD FOR SPLICING CODED VIDEO SIGNAL

PURPOSE: To obtain a method splicing two compressed video signals coded according to the standard adopted in the MPEG. CONSTITUTION: In order to prevent that an input buffer 424 of an MPEG decoder 420 receives a spliced video signal and overflows, the quantity of invalid information to be inserted between two video signals is decided. In this method, the production of splicing is attained after an optional access unit (picture) in a 1st compression video signal. The quantity of invalid information is decided based on a data rate of 1st and 2nd compressed video signals and on data quantity fed to the buffer before both the data of the 1st and 2nd video signals are called from the buffer. The video signal is spliced by inserting the invalid information as sequence fill bits to the buffer just after a selected picture in the 1st video signal. The 2nd video signal is fed to the buffer just after the fill bits.
