PURPOSE: To provide an optical wave front shape controller capable of spatially controlling wave front shapes of light with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: This controller has an amplitude control means 10 and a phase control means 20. The amplitude control means 10 is composed of a first polarizer 12, first liquid crystal element 14, half-wave plate 16 and second polarizer 18 arranged successively in the direction of an optical axis 28. This phase control means 20 is composed of a second liquid crystal element 22, quarter-wave plate 24 and third polarizer 26 likewise arranged successively in the direction of the optical axis 28. The liquid crystal element 14 and the liquid crystal element 22 have arranging patterns of the same pixels and are so arranged that the respective pixels overlap on each other. The control of the polarization direction of the light passing the respective pixels is made possible. |
