PURPOSE: To provide a method for preliminarily treating cells, capable of strengthening the membranes of the cells and imparting freezing resistance and pressure resistance to the cell membranes. CONSTITUTION: In a method for preliminarily treating cells, a thermal shock is preliminarily given to the cells to accumulate the thermally shocked proteins inside the cells, thereby strengthening the membranes of the cells and imparting freezing resistance and pressure resistance to the membranes. Thus, various cells can be subjected to long period frozen storage treatments or high pressure treatments.
