PURPOSE: To improve luminance of a back light and to reduce power consumption by increasing tube surface luminance of a cold cathode fluorescent lamp without accompanying with a local temp. rise of a liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION: In a liquid crystal display device provided with at least a light transmission body 5 constituted of a transparent plate, a reflection plate 4, a diffusion plate 6, a surface light source constituted of a linear light source 1 arranged along the vicinity of at least one side surface of the light transmission plate 5 and a reflection sheet 3 set up opened and surrounding the linear light source 1 on the side surface of the light transmission body 5, and the liquid crystal display element 8 laminated on the diffusion plate 6 side, at least a slit 13 formed along the extending direction of the linear light source 1 of the light transmission body 5 is provided on the vicinity of the linear light source l of the light transmission body 5. |
