PURPOSE: To obtain a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article, having a structure of plural twists capable of suppressing corrosion propagation with water, etc., while retaining tenacity of cord and raising corrosion propagation resistance. CONSTITUTION: In a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article, having a structure of plural twists obtained by twisting plural steel filaments to form stands 1 and further twisting the strands, the stand wholly or partially comprises a core 2 composed of two steel filaments arranged parallel with each other and a sheath 3 composed of N steel filaments (N:6-8) arranged around the core. Relationship shown by the formulas 0.6Ds<=Dc<=1.1Ds (N=6), 0.8 Ds<=Dc<=1.15Ds (N=7) and 0.95Ds<=Dc<=1.2Ds (N=8) is satisfied when the diameter of the core filament of the strand is Dc and the diameter of the sheath filament is Ds.
