PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device using a spectroscopic optical element at a low cost and with a small mounting space and preventing the deterioration in a polarizing plate of a liquid crystal panel due to thermal change of an incident polarization component. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a light source 12, a plane beam split plate 13 (or cold mirror) as a reflection member reflecting light from the light source 12 and the liquid crystal panel 14 on which the light reflected by the plane beam split plate 13 is made incident, and the plane beam split plate 13 is arranged so that the light from the light source 12 is made incident on it at an incident angle of 45 degree or above, and a display is performed using the s polarization component of the light reflected by the plane beam split plate 13 on the liquid crystal panel 14. |
