PURPOSE: To lower the significance of the orientation of an end base structure and improve heat transmission characteristics by storing a filter containing gas generant in an inflator housing and closing the ends of the housing with the end bases press-fitted in the ends of the filter. CONSTITUTION: A filter pack 42 includes a mesh screen 44 accommodating explosive property disks 46. One end of the filter pack 42 is press-fitted in an ignition end base 10 so that the corresponding end of the mesh screen 44 is compressedly centered, while the other end thereof has its peripheral disks 46 compressed by a pre-loading member 50 in the form of a springy disk. The ignition end base 10 has on its conical seat an igniter 52 that is retained in place when caulked by a retaining part, and accommodates an automatic igniter charge kept in position by a screen 54 in the space between the igniter 52 and a related internal wall. The other end of the filter pack 42 is mounted with an end base 56 that compressively centers the mesh screen 44. Both bases 10 and 56 are free of orientation relative to the filter pack 42, and provide improved seals or improved heat transmission characteristics.
