PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of a decoded image by allowing a receiver side to interpolate accurately picture elements interleaved at a transmitter side. CONSTITUTION: An image coder 40 applies classification processing to data and coefficient data D4 of each class are sent with image data D2, and an image decoder generates interpolated picture elements based on the received image data D2 and the coefficient data D4, then the image coder 40 obtains in advance a difference D20 between an estimated interpolation picture element D23 and a true value Di. The difference D20 is sent with the image data D2 and the coefficient data D4, then the image decoder obtains the decoded image in which the image quality is improved. |
