The invention relates to a composition for killing staphylococci. The composition consists of lysostaphin and at least one substance with synergistic enhancement on lysostaphin's bactericidal activity, for example, an antibiotic, a chelating agent or a membrane active agent. The invention further relates to the treatment method and prophylaxis of bovine mastitis utilizing lysostaphin.
