SOLITON TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WITH FLUCTUATION-FREQUENCY WAVEGUIDE FILTER HAVING SPECIFIED FILTER STRENGTH AND REGULATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce jitter in mass long-distance transmission by a soliton transmission system having variable frequency waveguide filter having specified filter strength and variation rate. SOLUTION: This soliton transmission system is provided with plural optical filters from 23-1 to 23-N having a central frequency intensively made different from the central frequency of the adjacent optical filter. In this case, filter strength η of the respective filters from 23-1 to 23-N is from about 0.3 to about 0.5, desirably, set at 0.4. The central frequency of series of optical filters from 23-1 to 23-N is changed at the variation rate less than (2/27)<1/2> η and more than 0.034η+O.047η<2> along a desired system length according to a prescribed method. It is desirable for the central frequency of respective optical filters from 23-1 to 23-N to be increased toward the direction of propagation.
