PURPOSE: To prepare a suitable coarse contour line even concerning an extracting object image, of which the shape is complicated, and to contribute to image extraction with fidelity to the object only by loading a little labor for inputting. CONSTITUTION: Concerning the method for surrounding the extracting image in a source image 12 with a coarse contour line 48, thinning this coarse contour line 48 and extracting the image surrounded by the thinned contour line, the source image 12 is smoothed, edge detecting processing is performed to this smoothed image, an edge picture element is calculated and displayed while being superimposed on the source image 12, an unwanted edge picture element 42f is erased, correction for adding a required edge picture element 42h to a lack area 44 is performed, and the coarse contour line 48 is prepared by performing expansion processing to the corrected edge picture element 42h. Since it is enough for the manual labor for inputting just to designate the correcting (erasing or adding) position of the edge picture element, the labor for inputting can be saved in comparison with the conventional case of manually inputting the coarse contour line 48. |
