PURPOSE: To reduce the input burden on an operator in the case of image cutting and to exactly extract an object area at high speed concerning the method for extracting any desired area out of a color image or continuous gradation images. CONSTITUTION: A source image stored in a storage means is displayed on a display means, an outer frame area is instructed and inputted in the shape of a band by a pointing means so as to include a contour part under displaying (S10 and S11), the difference from an adjacent picture element in a color space is calculated concerning the picture element of the source image within the outer frame area, and a partial image connecting picture elements showing the maximum difference and defining it as the contour line is defined as the extracting area in the source image (S12-S17). |
