PURPOSE: To provide a device which decodes bit-loaded bit streams. CONSTITUTION: Variable-length coded data are transmitted in the form of a bit stream after the data are bit-stuffed so that the number of the bits may become a fixed number and a frame start code indicating the start of one frame and an MMB start code for distinguishing a plurality of pieces of MMBs belonging to one frame from each other are inserted at every data block and a FIFO memory 11 stores the transmitted data and successively outputs data of a fixed number of bits from the bits whenever a readout signal is impressed. A decoding section 13 variable-length decodes input data in accordance with a control signal and generates a data requesting signal whenever the number of bits of the data used for the variable length decoding becomes a fixed value and, when no EOB data exists at every fixed data interval, outputs an EOB error signal. |
