CONSTITUTION: Attribute information of data included within a reproduced sector outputted from an ECC circuit 33 is detected by a stream detector 32 to send detected attribute information to a control circuit 6 to store to correspond to the sector. At the time of the variable-speed reproduction of only a picture I, the control circuit 6 controls a read pointer RP to read data of only the picture I based on attribute information among data stored in a ring buffer 5. Data of the picture data I read from the ring buffer 5 is supplied to a decoder 20 and displayed on a display 18. Thus, high speed variable-speed reproduction is enabled.
