<p>PURPOSE: To reduce the capacity of a variable length code memory by composing a variable length code table so that the length of address required to access is shorter. CONSTITUTION: In the variable length code table for a DCT output coefficient of the MPEG 1, combinations of runs and levels are classified depending on the absolute level. The address of the corresponding variable length code is formed to be a fixed length as a whole together with a flag area 50 in which the value and the length are specified uniquely based on a class to which the level belongs, a run data area, and a level data area. The length of the area for runs and levels is decided based on a minimum size required to store each maximum value of the absolute value of run data and the absolute value of level data in the combination included in the class. Or the variable length code may be stored in a table while being divided into the number of consecutive 0s from the head, the remaining code and the code length of the remaining code.</p> |
