PURPOSE: To surely detect the generation of dew condensation in a short time and without any malfunction by making a dew condensation detecting function operate only for a specified time after a power supply application in a magnetic recording and reproducing device. CONSTITUTION: The change of the resistance value of a dew condensation sensor 1 is converted into the change of a voltage in a conversion circuit 2 and the output voltage of the conversion circuit 2 is converted into digital data in an A/D conversion circuit 4. A timer circuit B 9 detects the signal of the power supply application of this device from a power supply detecting circuit 8 and the change amounts of digital data are monitored at every constant period of the timer circuit A 5 in an arithmetic circuit 7 during the operation for the specific time after the power supply application. Then, the number of times the voltage change amounts equal to or more than a stipulation are continued is counted in a counter circuit 6 and in the case the voltage change amounts are continued in the number of times equal to or more than the specified number of times, it is discriminated that the generation of the dew condensation is present and then the discrimination is displayed on a display part 10.
