PURPOSE: To detect the number of remaining bankbooks in the bankbook handling device having a bankbook issue part which takes a new bankbook out of its stacker and issues it. CONSTITUTION: A photoreflector 41 having a light emitting element which irradiates the bankbook 1 with light and a light receiving element which detects reflecting light decreasing in intensity with the distance to the bankbook 1 and converts the reflected light into a corresponding electric signal is provided so that the back part of plural new bankbooks 1 loaded orderly in the stacker can be scanned in the thickness direction; and a control part detects the electric signal from the light receiving element being large at the peak part of the back part of the bankbooks 1 and small between bankbooks 1 according to the shape of the back part of the bankbooks 1 through the scanning to count the bankbooks 1. |
