PURPOSE: To obtain a thin-film magnetic head which prevents the degradation in head performance. CONSTITUTION: The film of Cu is formed by sputtering on an MR layer 1 and electrodes 2a, 2b of the thickness smaller nearer the end face side to be faced with magnetic recording media are formed. The thicknesses of the electrodes 2a, 2b are 0.037μm in the thickness (h) near the end face sides to be faced with the magnetic recording media and are gradually increased in the longitudinal direction. The thickness H on the MR layer 1 is about 0.3μm. The head is polished by an ABS 9 and information is read by disposing a magnetic disk M to face the ABS 9.
