[Class 111] In a settling tank 10 in which the liquor to be treated is fed through a submerged horizontal pipe 14 to a fixed central distribution box 23 from which it flows downwards into the tank, skimming blades 27 are carried by a central ring or turntable 2o rotatably mounted on the box 23 or on a separate track centrally slung from the crossbridge 21. The ring 26 may be rotated by a pinion 29 engaging a rack 26c thereon, or by a friction wheel, driven through a chain 34 and sprockets, or through bevel gearing, by a handle 37 or mechanical driving means. Alternatively, the spindle 32 may be extended inwardly and operated through gearing by the shaft 17 of the rotary scrapers, a clutch being provided for disconnecting the skimmer drive when the scum has been removed. The shaft 17 may be driven through worm gearing 20 and a shaft 19 from an electric motor 18.</p> |
