PURPOSE:To prevent light from being reflected by optical fiber end surfaces on an incidence and a projection side, by slanting those end surfaces to a surface perpendicular to the axes of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:An optical isolator 1 is constituted by arranging a condenser lens 4, birefringent tapered plate 5, 45 deg. Faraday rotator 6, birefringent tapered plate 7, and condenser lens 8 between the incidence-side optical fiber 2 and projection-side optical fiber 3 successively from the fiber 2 to the fiber 3. The 45 deg. Faraday rotator 6 is made of, for example, YIG and those parts 4-8 constitute the main body A of the optical isolator. The fibers 2 and 3 have such slanting surfaces 2e and 3e that the normals of the end surfaces facing the optical isolator body A are in the same slanting direction of the tapered surface to the axes of the fibers 2 and 3; and reflected light from, for example, the slanting surface 2e is sent as shown by an arrow and never returns to a transmission side. |
