A glass tube matrix device including a first set of working elongated gas containers (20) and parallel second elongated containers (30) crossing the first elongated containers. Each container contains a working gas which discharges so as to emit light when a voltage is applied to the electrodes (50,60) provided in the containers(20,30)corresp. to a particular glass tube (40). A cap unit including florescent and filter layers may be provided to enclose each tube (40).
