The spindle press has a spindle (8), a ram (20) and a spindle nut (18). It operates by a coupling of the spindle to a continuously rotating flywheel (6). The ratio of the dia. (d) of the spindle to the bearing length (x) of the spindle nut is greater than 1.25. The pressure intensity in the threads (17,19) of the spindle and nut working with each other is less than 40 N/mm2. The ratio between the thread depth and the dia. of the spindle should be greater than 0.15. The ram (20) may be divided more or less horizontally into a spindle-nut sector and a mass sector.
