The high tenacity polyester yarn is produced by (a) spinning a polyester chip of 1.1˜1.2 intrinsic viscosity, composed of at least 90mol% polyethylene terephthalate, through the spinning nozzle having the heating hood of 330˜350deg. C at 290˜300deg. C spinning temp. and 500˜600m/min spinning speed, (b) passing it through the heating pipe of 180-220deg. C, (c) oiling the undrawn yarn to be 0.5˜0.8wt.% oil pick up, (d) drawing it to be 5.2˜5.4 drawing ratio, (e) slackening the drawn yarn to be 2.0˜3.0% slackening ratio, and (f) winding the yarn. The polyester yarn is useful for safe seat belts.
