The invention relates to an assembly for the storage and application of a cosmetic product. The assembly (1) comprises: a body (6) which is provided with an opening and includes a reservoir (10) capable of containing the product; an applicator (2) capable of coming into contact with the product and of being charged with a given amount thereof and retaining means (58, 62) for ridding the applicator of excess product. The applicator comprises a rod (42, 44) carrying a product-application structure (4) which is to apply the product, the means for retaining the product being connected to the body and/or to the rod. The field of use of the invention is that of cosmetics, more especially that of "mascaras" to be applied to the eyelashes.
