A durable moulding die for metal, plastic and glass having good thermal shock, erosion and abrasion resistance

Moulding die for plastic metal or glass is made of a high thermal conductivity material, coated on its internal moulding surface with a second material of lower thermal conductivity and higher thermal shock- and abrasion resistance. The ratio of the thermal conductivities lies between 5:1 and 15:1. The coating thickness is locally controlled, in accordance with the desired thermal flux density, and lies in the range 0.5-20 mm. Both materials are metals, with melting points over 900 deg C. In addition to the mould described, the method of making it, is also claimed.
