The catheter consists of a long tube (22) which incorporates a pressure generator (21). This is attached to the distal end of the tube (22) and there is an inflatable balloon (25) which is attached to the proximal end of the tube (22). The pressure generator (21) consists of a cylinder with a piston (24) which is operated either by a solid rod or by a hollow tube. When a hollow tube is used, this can incorporate a valve and can be used to feed liquid to the balloon. A chamber can be provided into which the piston can be retracted. The catheter can further be provided with a pressure sensor or an indication for the size of the inflated balloon.
