The personalised data carrier (11) stores characteristic values derived from the personal data. A security device is provide which makes the manipulation of the personal data and/or characteristic values externally detectable. In one embodiment the security device comprises a coating of varnish on the surface of the data carrier. The coating of varnish contains temperature-dependent colour-change dye which irreverisbly changes colour when written on. The dye is formed on the data carrier in a line pattern (13), especially a wave-shaped pattern.
