A method of signing or initialling a long-length product, in particular an optical fibre, on to which at least one layer of UV-curing lacquer is applied, followed by a differently coloured additional sign or mark, and then curing of both the lacquer layer and the coloured additional sign or mark. Before the additional sign or mark is applied, the lacquer layer is cured in advance and a slightly tacky surface is formed on the lacquer layer.
