Instrument set for osteochondral transplant

A cylinder of bone (7) is extracted from the smooth undamaged upper surface (2) of the joint (1) using the transplant extractor (3). This is made from a punch with a shaft at one end and a cutting edge (5) at the other. The wall thickness of the transplant extractor in the area near the cutting edge is a certain thickness (6) greater than the rest of the extractor head area such that the ID (d) at this cutting area is less than the dia. (D) of the cylinder of bone which has been removed. The length of the thickened section at the cutting end of the extractor is 3 or 4 mm and its ID is 0.3 mm less than the dia. of the rest of the head end of the extractor. Various dia. instruments are provided and a range of drills for making tapered holes for the implanted bone completes the set.
