摘要 A superconducting magnet system for a magnetic resonance tomograph has a liquid helium cryostatic cooling circuit (11) enclosing a compound multi-layer cylinder (13) which forms the source of a uniform stationary magnetic field. The cylinder (13) is built up by interleaving 1 mm sheets of Niobium, Titanium and copper supported by the fixtures (14a 14b) such as to be concentric with a tubular EM coil (16) energised from a source (15). In operation the coil induces a steady circulating current in the cylinder (13) which is permanently maintained at cryostatic temperatures to generate a uniform field along the axis (39) and unable withdrawal of the coil (16) to create diagnostic space.
