Language selection system for spoken announcement in telephone network

The required language for the spoken announcement is selected by the telephone user, using an announcement request call number (ARN) having a fixed part (FAN), determining the announcement type and a variable part (VAN), comprising a number sequence, identifying the language. The entered announcement request call number is used to establish the connection to an answering device, with the announcement prepared in the selected language. Alternatively the required language for the announcement is determined by evaluating subscriber data provided automatically by each calling subscriber.
