The support elements (2) are shaped by bending or folding foam plates into semicircular oblong curved bodies with profiled cross-section. A fold or groove (3) is formed from below in the support element. The support elements are arranged as half rolls individually and for larger surfaces parallel next to each other and then provided with a cover of suitable shape. The initial product for a mattress comprises a base mat and foam plates connected therewith but each branching at angles and spaced from each other. The foam plates are bent round and inserted in each other to form the mattress body.
