A documented database provides a simple hypertext interface, to local and centralised data held in relational databases. A database consists of a set of modules (5, 6, 7, 8) that each contain a data part (25, 26, 27, 28) which is a small closely coupled set of data, and a text part (15, 16, 17, 18), which is a short textual description of the data part. Documents (14) are constructed, or 'instantiated', from templates by retrieving selected modules (5, 6, 7, 8) stored in the database. The text parts (15, etc.) of each retrieved module (5, etc.) are compiled into a composite textual description of the selected data.
|
