A switch mode mains power supply (S.M.P.S.) including a choke (inductance (L)), connected via a diode (DS) to a reservoir capacitance (CA) supplying the working voltage (UA), and periodically charged via the switching transistor (TS) across which is connected a second capacitor (CS). In order to provide an additional switch (SS) across the diode (DS), without resorting to an active controlled switch, the switch (SS) is designed so that a delay diode (DS) having a long recovery period is used, which provides a reverse current in the blocking direction.
