In a stop device (8) for a portable edge milling machine (1) with a tracing roller (12) arranged on the milling-cutter block (3), the stop member, which is parallel to the milling-cutter block (3), consists of two guiding elements (9, 9') arranged on either side of the milling-cutter block (3). It is thus possible, during the flush milling of edge bands (5) extending perpendicularly to rounded or curved narrow faces (30), such as in the case of post- and soft-forming boards, to guide the edge milling machine reliably even over the rounded narrow face (30).
