A polycarbonate redistribution method for altering the molecular wt. of a polycarbonate having an initial wt. average molecular wt. of 22,000-68,000 comprises reacting the polycarbonate and tetra-organophosphonium carboxylate salt at 200-340 [deg] C. Amt. of salt is sufficient to cause a redn. in the molecular wt. of the polycarbonate and provide a melt flow index (g/10 minute) of 5.0-80.
